About the Academy

The American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy is the second-largest specialty section of the American Physical Therapy Association.  As the APTA embarks on its centennial year-long celebration in 2021, the Sports Academy will soon celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023.  Thousands of sports physical therapists have built our organization of almost 8,000 members to what it is today, and the visionary leadership of today's members charts a course for the next 50 years.  Join us as we define the specialty, build on our members' knowledge, skills, and abilities, and impact the lives of countless athletes at every level. DEI Pic small groupDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Academy recently formed the DEI Committee to focus needed attention on building more inclusive programming and leadership opportunities for members representing the true diversity of the profession.  Whether it's holding a positional leadership role on a committee, submitting a research article for peer review, or presenting at one of our virtual or online educational sessions, we are actively promoting opportunities that present a true reflection of our profession and those we serve.
